True North expands
True North Media Monitoring has acquired Ghana’s Maverick Media Monitoring for an undisclosed sum. The combined group will cover media monitoring across 21 African countries, with particular strength in Nigeria. The company has appointed Akinwale Adams to lead the group’s operations and oversee the integration. The acquisition strengthens True North Media Monitoring’s position as the the leading provider of media monitoring and analysis services in West and Central Africa.
Bellingcat launches free toolkit
This is an alert for the data-loving researchers. Bellingcat, the community of open source researchers and citizen journalists, has released an Online Investigations Toolkit. The toolkit is designed to help researchers discover tools in categories like social media and satellite imagery, and help researchers learn how to use each tool. Bellingcat’s toolkit is free.
CIPR and Memo provide Autumn reading
Two reports for you to feast on as you head in October. First off, the UK’s CIPR surveyed some 2,016 of its members to understand the current state of the profession. The report highlights falling salaries in the profession and a skills shortage, with AI being highlighted as a particular concern. It makes for interesting ready. Meanwhile, Memo surveyed 1000 comms pros to understand the role of communications. The report shows a major shift in the last year. In 2024, 56% of comms teams say they report to the CEO directly, up from 22% in 2023. Comms teams reporting to marketing leaders dropped to 37% in 2024 from 63% in 2023.
AMEC Awards Shortlist
AMEC has announced the shortlist for its annual awards. The AMEC Awards celebrate the best of PR measurement, and the shortlist has just been announced. CARMA leads the charge with 16 nominations followed by Onclusive with 11 nominations and Unicepta, Fullintel and Edelman are in equal third place with seven. There are plenty more organisations shortlisted, congratulations to all. The winners will be announced in November.

CARMA has launched its Reputation score, which combines audience, social and earned media data. The methodology defines reputation across six core pillars.
Prowly is set to partner with TVEyes, to provide broadcast media monitoring solutions to its clients.
PeakMetrics, the narrative intelligence company, has launched Peakmetrics 2.0. The new solution includes expanded sources, including TikTok, Telegram and Discord, as well as network visualisations and integrations from partners including NewsGuard and Reality Defender.
